I fear that I can’t relate, despite hardships I may face. No amount of tragedy can chip away at these walls, the walls that regulate lives assigned without a goddamned say, categorized from birth to never know our worth, but from the lies we’re told each day. In a world devoid of color, would we still be splitting hairs over different shades of gray? While the powers that be try to tell us what to think like we aren’t capable on our own to perceive that we’re all human beings, and we all have the right to live a life not from our knees. We don’t need validation from you. I fear that we’re programmed to hate. Through divisive discourse we relate human nature to learned behaviors that we can’t change. Where we’re born is just a dot on a map, not a green light to go snare and entrap a race, systematically calloused, and crippled to know their place. Can’t you see? They hope that we’ll turn on each other, because it’s all we know, to suffer in silence, grasping at false seeds of hope. While the powers that be try to tell us what to think like we aren’t capable on our own to perceive that we’re all human beings, and we all have the right to live a life not from our knees. But I wonder if these boundaries can be crossed? Conversations fall flat long before they start when we’re too quick to point out that no one can understand our plight, unless we share a pigmentation of skin. There’s got to be common ground on which we can open these wounds and start to stitch them up before we’re all too consumed with self-loathing and nihilistic thought that perpetuates injustice and furthers our divide, while we squander any chances of rising above centuries of violence with one voice for all. A unified voice has to be heard, so many came before us, and left the torch still burning. A unified voice has to be heard, so many came before us, now its our turn.
